Welcome to Passport Producer Pro™. We are going to assume that you are familiar with your Macintosh and that you know how to allocate memory to an application if necessary. If you are not familiar with basic Macintosh functions, please read your Apple Macintosh documentation.
This demo application is restricted to saving only 30 Cues on the Cue Sheet. This demo is also limited in that it will not export or create QuickTime™ files and will not work with AppleScript™.
Installation and Setup Instructions for Evaluation Package
--------------------------------
We recommend for Passport Producer Pro™ a Quadra or Centris (68030- or 68040-based) Macintosh with 12 megabytes of RAM and System 7.
NOTE: The application is set to a 12 megabyte memory partition. If you have more memory available, we suggest you allocate as much memory to Producer Pro as you can. For 24-bit color (millions of colors), 12 megabytes is the minimum. If, however, you are running in 8-bit color (256 colors) it is possible to run in as little as 8 megabytes.
The Application
Passport Producer Pro™ can be run from the CD-ROM, but you'll get better performance if you copy it to your hard drive. The entire installation requires approximately ten and half megabytes of free space.
The INITs
Producer Pro requires some System extensions to operate properly: QuickTime™, the new Sound Manager, MIDI Manager™, PatchBay™, and the Apple MIDI Driver.
If you are using a Mac IIfx or a Quadra 900 or 950 the Serial Switch control panel is required for proper MIDI communication with Passport Producer Pro™ . When installation has been completed, choose Control Panels from the Apple menu and double-click the Serial Switch icon. Make sure the control panel is set to “Compatible.”
Don’t forget to restart your computer after the installation so that all the required extensions are loaded.
The Hardware
Passport Producer will run on a basic Mac II with no additional hardware. However, we recommend a Quadra class computer. To take full advantage of the QuickTime, MIDI or 16-bit digital audio features of the software, you will need additional equipment.
Producer supports all the popular video display cards capable of QuickTime playback. If you have an Quadra AV or Centris AV computer you do not need additional video cards.
To record or play back MIDI data, you will need a Mac-compatible MIDI interface and a MIDI musical instrument, or a sound card such as the Media Vision Pro AudioSpectrum 16.
Recording and playback of 16-bit digital audio requires a 16-bit audio card such as Spectral Innovations NUmedia, Digidesign's Sound Accelerator or Audiomedia, or Media Vision's Pro AudioSpectrum 16 cards. If you have a Quadra AV or Centris AV computer you do not need additional 16-bit digital audio cards or software.
Input and output using third party audio cards using the new sound manager will require the correct input and output drivers for those cards. You will need to obtain these drivers from the respective manufactures.
To launch Producer Pro, double click on the application icon. When you see the opening screen, click again to open the Cue Sheet. You are now ready to begin your self guided tour of Passport Producer Pro. Start by loading one of the prepared cue sheets.
